What is a deferment?

It is a condition granted by your lender. The lender may postpone making payments on your loan under certain conditions. To request a deferment from EdFed, please call us at (800) 821-5659.

However, you will have to pay the interest charged on all other federally-guaranteed student loans during a deferment period. Either pay the interest as it accrues or allow it to accumulate and be capitalized when the deferment period ends.
