Requirements Must meet one of the following income requirements: a dependent undergraduate student or student who is married or has tax dependents - $80,000 or less NYS net taxable income; a single independent undergraduate student with no dependents - $10,000 or less NYS net taxable income; a single independent graduate student with no dependents - $5,666 or less NYS net taxable income; or a dependent graduate student or an independent graduate student who is married or has tax dependents - $20,000 or less NYS net taxable income.; Must be a domestic student in the U.S.; This is an undergraduate and/or graduate award.; Must be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen.; Must attend or plan to attend an approved postsecondary institution in New York state. Approved institutions can be found on the HESC website.; Must be a legal resident of New York.; Must plan to enroll full time (12 credits per semester or more).; Must have graduated from high school, have a GED, or have passed a federally approved exam demonstrating that he/she can benefit from the education offered.
