Must be a domestic student in the U.S.; This is an undergraduate and/or graduate award.; Must pursue a career in one of the following fields: acupuncture, architecture, athletic training, audiology, certified public accountancy, chiropractic medicine, dental hygiene, dietetics/nutrition, interior design, landscape architecture, law, massage therapy, midwifery, nurse practitioner, occupational therapy, occupational therapy assisting, ophthalmic dispensing, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, physical therapy assisting, podiatry, professional engineering, psychology, registered nursing, registered physician assisting, respiratory therapy, social work, speech language pathology, veterinary medicine, or veterinary technology.; Must be a U.S. citizen or qualifying non-citizen.; Must be a legal resident of New York for one year or more immediately preceding the effective date of the award.; Must enroll full time.; Must be enrolled in, or be a candidate for admission to, a degree-bearing, licensure-qualifying program in New York state. A list of approved schools can be found on the NYS Regents Professional Opportunity Scholarship application.; In selecting scholarship recipients, priority is given to applicants in the following order: first priority - applicants who are economically disadvantaged and members of a minority group historically underrepresented in the listed professions (i.e., Black, Hispanic, Native American, or Alaskan Native); second priority - applicants who are members of a minority group historically underrepresented in the listed professions (as listed above); third priority - applicants who are enrolled in or graduates of the following state-sponsored opportunity programs: Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP), Search for Education, Elevation and Knowledge (SEEK), or College Discovery. The applicant should review the NYS Regents Professional Opportunity Scholarship application to determine if he/she is considered economically disadvantaged.; Must be a high school senior or older at time application.
