Requirements This award is available for international students and domestic students in the U.S.; This is an undergraduate award.; Must have a grade point average of 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher OR be ranked within the top 5 percent of his/her class.; Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident of the United States OR eligible non-citizen. Specific information regarding citizenship requirements can be found at: ugsp.info.nih.gov/citizenship.htm. If the applicant is not a U.S. citizen or national, it is recommended that he/she contact the UGSP before applying to determine if he/she meets the citizenship requirements.; Must demonstrate a sincere interest in pursuing a career in biomedical research.; Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a full-time student at an accredited four-year undergraduate institution.; Must be from a disadvantaged background. Disadvantaged background means that the student's financial aid office has certified him/her as having 'exceptional financial need'. The latest low-income thresholds can be found on page two of the 'Applying for a scholarship' document.; Must be a high school senior or older at time of application.
