Must be a domestic student in the U.S.; This is a graduate award. The applicant must either be a college senior wishing to pursue a Ph.D degree or a current undergraduate student.; Must attend one of the tenable schools. A list of participating schools can be found at https://apply.embark.com/fellowship/Hertz/31/Instr.asp; Must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident.; Must have received a bachelor's degree by the time he/she proposes to commence tenure of his/her fellowships; must propose to complete a program of graduate study leading to an advanced degree; or must have already commenced graduate study.; Must be enrolled in a field of graduate study that is directed toward the understanding and solving of problems associated with contemporary human concern, using applications of knowledge from the physical and engineering sciences. (This is in contrast to work whose primary purpose is to extend the frontier of knowledge in the physical sciences for the sake of new knowledge alone.)
