Requirements Must be enrolled in an approved undergraduate degree program in New York state that is within 50 miles of the volunteer organization. If there is no college available within the 50 mile limit, then the applicant must attend the nearest college/institution.; Must plan to have a course load of six credits or more per term.; Must be a member of a volunteer fire department or ambulance squad in New York. A volunteer organization means ambulance company as defined in section three of the volunteer ambulance workers' benefit law, or fire company as defined in section three of the volunteer firefighters' benefit law. If the applicant is 23 years of age or older, he/she must have less than six months of volunteer service at the time of initial award. If the applicant is under 23 years of age, no minimum or maximum time of volunteer service is required at time of initial award.; Must be a U.S. citizen.; Must have a high school diploma or the equivalent at time of application in August.; Must be a domestic student in the U.S.; This is an undergraduate award.; Must have been a New York state resident for one year or more.
